Q&A

A number of questions were raised in our recent pupillage webinars and the answers are provided here. We will continue to add to this information so do watch this space.

Last year, in addition to the Pupillage Gateway application form, we asked candidates applying to Blackstone Chambers sho met our minimum threshold for academic achievement to complete a timed written assessment. We plan to repeat this again this year and this will be conducted remotely on Saturday 7 February 2026.

Applicants will be able to choose from 3 time slots across the day; the Pupillage Committee Chairs will consider requests for alternative times in exceptional circumstances only; it is hoped all applicants will complete the assessment on 7 February 2026.

It’s intended that the assessment will take no longer than three hours.

The written assessment will provide the Pupillage Committee with evidence of your analytical ability and written communication skills. which will be considered alongside your application form.

We also want to draw your attention to a further change in the application process. This year we plan to introduce an first stage interview to help us shortlist for mini pupillage. Interviews will be remote, with two members of our Pupillage Committee and last for approximately 15 minutes. Interviews will take place between Tuesday 24 February to Tuesday 3 March 2026.
